Paladins Lore is messy! I'm in the process of reworking it! Posted: 12 May 2020 09:05 PM PDT Is it just me or is the Paladins lore incredibly messy? Especially compared to other games, it's lore is also incredibly lacklustre. I've decided I want to rewrite the lore into a novel, adding my own artistic liberties while keeping in line with canon as much as possible! I've published Chapter 1 so far, but here's to many more chapters to come! Feedback is appreciated. You can find the story I'm working on here: https://www.wattpad.com/story/224763108-tales-from-the-realm I will answer questions about context and what directions I will be taking in the story! This is all complete fanfiction, but it would be nice if Hi-Rez had a quick look and took a page or two out of the book. [link] [comments] |

Hirez immediately refused AoC suggestion for saving replays; my response and suggestion Posted: 12 May 2020 08:48 PM PDT A couple of weeks ago in Jay Clare's video about AoC, there was a suggestion to enable saving replays. Video here, go to time stamp 1:15: https://youtu.be/HQIlZAe6Ibo The AoC member talked about saving replays, but hirez shut it down claiming saving replays would bog down the servers. I'm sure they're telling the truth since having thousands of replays saved online would be quite a burden. And with the current experimental server settings they have, I agree the servers cannot afford more load. To solve this problem, might I recommend a different solution: Remove replays from the servers, save them on the user's computer. You might say that this is going to be difficult, you might say it would take lots of memory, but it is actually viable. Already we have precedents. You can actually already watch paladins replays of ranked matches from current ranked split. You have to do some unintuitive processes first like finding the match ID, typing a command in system chat. There isn't even an actual button for replays yet. This replay system saves All replays from the ranked split regardless if the player wants to watch it or not. And all of these matches are saved in the server. They are already saving replays which puts stress on the server. If you remove the ranked replays saved on the server and saved it to the user's computer, the load to the server due to replays would be removed completely. There's even precedent for this on another game: World of tanks saves replays automatically to the player's hard drive after every match. You can even change in the settings whether you want to save all replays, keep only the most recent replay, or don't save any replays at all. Another advantage for saving replay files on the computer is that people can share and upload the replays like regular files. You can cut, copy, and even upload these replays through email or other file sharing sites. Some issues people might ask:
It shouldn't be since they're just button inputs and positioning. No large video files. World of tanks replays are mostly 500 kb, with the largest being no more than 2 mb. And mind you, world of tanks is a game that involves 15v15 matches over a large map. That's a a lot of movement, but the file size is still small.
Like I mentioned, they are already saving ranked replays. They just need to change where that file is being saved and turn it into a visible file on a regular computer. The server won't have to keep these replays anymore. I know hirez is currently busy with other things right now, but at the very least, could we have them put this on a to do list for the next year or something instead of just immediately shutting down the suggestion without any alternative options they can do at a later time?
